| MEADOWVIEW FARM EMMITT Emmitt, an Argentine Thoroughbred, was born in Iowa in 1989 to a polo mare named Kate. Les brought BL (as he was called) to MVF at age 2 where he would learn to be a polo pony. Due to heaves, Emmitt would never make it as a polo pony. He was however already loved by many and Dori bought him to teach him to jump. He was renamed after Emmitt Smith, and he took to his new career as easily as the new name. He was very successful in both the LEHS and MHJA circuits. Some where along the way, a very nice lady, Sue Wakefield, would become quite attached and eventually bought Emmitt. Emmitt showed successfully for both Sue and her daughter Melissa. He was borrowed for an MHJA medal final by Staci Spaulding and won year end prizes in the Second Year Green division. Emmitt was next leased by Merrill Howland with whom he would go on to win the LEHS Mini Medal Finals. He was eventually purchased by another wonderful adult lady, Nancy Wanty. Emmitt taught her everything he could, and when she was ready to step up he would go on to Megan De Fouw, who competed in the LEHS horse shows, winning maiden and novice champions, then going on to do MHJA shows competing in the jumper ring and 14 & Under division. Liz Finkelstein was Emmitts next rider and they also experienced great success and many championships. Emmitt has now settled as one of the great MVF school horses. He has spent the last few years enjoying showing with Sarah Boomers and teaching kids the joys of riding a horse. Sarah and Emmitt recently had a great photo appear in the Chronicle of the Horse. Emmitt also won the prestigious LEHS “Good Egg” Award. This is rewarded to a special horse that has done many, many good deeds and been an excellent contributor to the Lake Effects Horse Shows.
